Tuscumbia Spring Park

In downtown Tuscumbia, AL, approximately 1 hour from downtown Huntsville, lies the beautiful Spring Park. My family recently visited the park after touring Helen Keller’s birthplace, Ivy Green, and was pleasantly surprised at what this park had to offer.

Since 1919, the park has provided a beautiful setting with many attractions, including Cold Water Falls, the largest human-made natural stone waterfall. The waterfall is hidden directly beside the parking lot, allowing visitors only a short, accessible walk. This waterfall, unlike natural waterfalls, is ever flowing, with approximately 4,320,000 gallons of water passing over the falls each day, making it perfect to visit when waterfalls are hard to come by.

The park also includes a large spring that forms a beautiful lake supplying the town’s drinking water. The lake features a memorial water fountain dedicated to the memory of Princess Im-Mi-Ah-Key, the wife of Chief Tuscumbia. The fountain consists of 51 jets that shoot water more than 100 feet into the air. The jets are choreographed to lights and music that even run through the night.

Visitors can enjoy feeding ducks at the lake. Duck food is available for $0.25.

The park also features a large playground to keep the kids active, complete with a slide, monkey bars, swings, and more.

There is even a roller coaster, carousel, and a small train that rides along the park. The rides, at the time of my visit, were not running, though they are available on weekends and special events for a small fee.

That’s not all; the park contains picnic areas and a stage for concerts in the park and other events.

Spring Park is definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a fun family day trip in North Alabama
